Dear parents/guardians,
As we embark on another exciting school year, there is one policy change that I want to bring to your attention. During the West Virginia legislative session last year, legislation was passed requiring all county systems in West Virginia to have a county wide cell phone policy in place at the beginning of the 25/26 school year that would follow the guidance they established. To address this, our policy was written during our summer administrative retreat with input from our attorney, principals' central office staff and board members. Moving forward with this, our process will be to introduce our cell phone policy to the Board of Education at the August 12th meeting and then have it approved at the August 26th meeting. Upon approval, it will go into effect immediately. This will be of minimal change in our schools Because all of our schools already had a cell phone policy in place, now it will be the same policy in all schools.. The intent of our policy is to restrict student use of cell phones during instructional time while still allowing them to bring them to school. Once approved by the BOE. The policy. Will be on all school websites as well as the county web page. Also, principles at all of our schools will be sending home a hard copy of the policy for you to keep as your reference. There will be a signature sheet attached that we are asking that you sign and return to the school indicating that you have received the policy. If you have questions concerning the cell phone policy, please don't hesitate to call the principal at the respective school in which your children attend.
Thank you. Mitch Webster, Grant County Schools Superintendent
