Gingerbread House Decorating Contest PES will be having a gingerbread house decorating contest for any student in grades PreK-6 that would like to participate. Contest Rules and Information: 1. The theme for the gingerbread house is “A Setting from my Favorite Book.” You may pick a setting from any book you have read. 2. There may be only one entry per student. The information card included in this packet must be completed and attached to the project. Do not put the student’s name on the front!! 3. The gingerbread house needs to be on a sturdy base such as styrofoam, cardboard, plywood, cookie sheet, etc. The base cannot be larger than 2ft x 2ft. 4. All entries are due in the cafeteria on Monday, December 4, 2023 and may be dropped off from 7:15-8:30am. You may park in the side parking lot and enter through the gym doors. Do not enter the front of the building. No early or late entries will be accepted! 5. Houses will be displayed from December 4-8. 6. All houses must be picked up on Friday, December 8. Any remaining houses will be thrown away. 7. Participation is voluntary and can be done by the student alone or as a family project. Students choosing to participate must provide their own gingerbread house and decorating materials. 8. 1st-3rd place will be chosen from each grade based on visual neatness, originality/creativity, craftsmanship and display of the book setting. Other awards include: best of show, I did it myself, and most creative. Judges will be from outside of the school. 9. Each child who participates in the contest will be entered into a big drawing at the end of the year. Those who participated in the Pumpkin Contest will also be entered into the drawing. The name will be entered for each completed project, so if you complete two projects, you will have two chances to win. There will be a grand drawing for K-2 students and one for 3-6 students. Some possible prizes are: Beats headphones, Kindle Fire, art kit, scooter Some tips for creating the gingerbread house: 1. Use a sturdy base so the project doesn’t fall apart. 2. Use a box as the base of the house. Attach the gingerbread or graham crackers to the box. 3. Make sure your icing has time to dry before adding decorations.
